Language interpretation is an essential communication link between refugee and displaced communities and entities providing support and assistance.  Misinterpretations or miscommunication can have devastating outcomes, from incorrect decisions in refugee status determination, to misdiagnoses in health care treatments.

Interpreters require training, language resources and support to perform their tasks adequately, and to avoid unintended harm from misinterpretations or breaches of ethical boundaries in confidentiality, neutrality, etc.

Resource information on interpretation for refugee aid settings can be found on the Cairo Community Interpreter Project (CCIP) website, which is an interpreter training and technical assistance outreach project of the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) at the American University in Cairo (AUC).
